Bill & Emily's Musical Exploits - 10/11/13

Hi everybody!

Columbus Day weekend is upon us, and that means one thing . . . Parades!!

The Marching Milkman Band will be playing in two parades this weekend. Our first appearance will be with Munroe Dairy at the 66th Westerly/Pawcatuck Columbus Day Parade on Sunday, Oct 13th, at 1 PM. The whole Munroe Dairy circus will be there - the band, the antique truck, the dancing cows, and the mini-moo. Check us out!

Our second appearance will be at the big 35th Autumnfest Parade in Woonsocket on Monday, Oct 14th, stepping off at 9:30 AM. Once again we will be representing Woonsocket's own Moonlight House of Wieners, and we've rounded up a collection of young dancing hot dogs to join us.

Both of these are big, colorful, three-hour parades. Come on out and cheer us on!

Bill & Emily's Media Exploits - 9/22/13

Hi everyone,

Emily will be giving a reading of her vignettes at the Woonsocket Public Library this coming Thursday, Sep 26th, at 7 PM. She'll be reading a collection of the pieces that have evolved from her daily walks through the city with her dog Lily. These walks have made her something of a celebrity in town, the dog lady everyone has seen. Here's the press release:

25 Years and Still in Love: A Celebration of Woonsocket

Emily Lisker is a writer, painter, and musician who has lived in the city of Woonsocket for 25 years. Driving through on a whim, she fell in love with the mills, and after moving here fell in love with the people and the hills. You may have seen her on the sidewalk with her big yellow long-legged Lily-dog. She gets all of her inspiration from walking around the city with Lily and then going home and writing about the people she meets and the stories they tell her. Emily's written portraits and snapshots, called vignettes, are full of loving and poignant details of Woonsocket and its people.

Bill & Emily's Musical Exploits - 9/6/13

Hello everyone!

We had a great Labor Day weekend with the Marching Milkman Band in Woonsocket, Matunuck and East Providence. Now it's time for one more, but this time it will be just Emily and me as the Stay Tuned Duo.

We will be performing this Sunday, September 8th, at Pawtucket's Arts Marketplace, part of the Pawtucket Arts Festival. We will perform outdoors in front of the historic Armory Arts Center from 12 noon to 3 PM. Drop by and say hi!

Bill & Emily's Musical Exploits - 8/26/13

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying the back half of summer, and to help you celebrate these thankfully cooler days the Marching Milkman Band has a trio of events over the Labor Day weekend.

First up is Woonsocket's 125th Anniversary celebration which takes place Thursday evening, Aug 29th. The entire half-mile of the historic downtown will be one long block party featuring 12 stages of entertainment. We will be performing for the first time as a stage band on Stage 9 from 8:30 - 9 PM. The stage will be opposite the city's YMCA, near Beacon School and the Stadium Theater.
https://www.facebook.com/WoonsocketBlockParty

The second event is technically a private event. Residents of Carpenter's Beach in Matunuck RI have invited us to lead their Illuminated Parade to mark the end of summer. This will be the second time the band has led the kids around the narrow streets of this cottage community. Though a private event, if you happen to be in Matunuck on Saturday at 7 PM and hear a marching band playing, come find us in our Hawaiian shirts!

Finally, on Monday Sep 2nd the city of East Providence will have their second Labor Day Parade, starting at 10 AM at EP High School. We will be marching through downtown with Munroe Dairy, so expect the truck and the mini-moo and maybe even the dancing cows! We'll be there in force, so come and cheer us on!

Bill & Emily's Musical Exploits - 7/2/13

Happy July everyone!

The Munroe Dairy Marching Band will make its 10th appearance at the Fourth of July parade in Bristol this Thursday, July 4th! The parade runs from 10:30 AM to about 2:30 PM. We will be up front again this year, in the Chief Marshal's Division. We've got dancing cows, big & small milktrucks, milkmen playing tubas, trombones, and trumpets, and this year, adding to the circus atmosphere, Munroe Dairy has invited a dance troupe to join us. Come join the fun and cheer us on!

Emily has a new painting up on her website. It's called Day of the Dead, and features a couple inspired by Day of the Dead skeleton figures from this Mexican festival - a Mexican Gothic, if you will. In addition, I have created an animation of the development of this painting over the last two years which I hope you enjoy. Please check it out!

Happy Spring everyone!

The Munroe Dairy Marching Milkman Band will make its first appearance of the year this Saturday at a small parade in Woonsocket. We'll be helping the Bernon Little League open their season - isn't that cute? We'll parade down the street and around the ballpark and during the ceremonies. It will be a nice way to open our 10th season as a marching band. We hope you'll have a chance to catch us some time this year!

In more media news, the Urban Mermaid (aka Emily Lisker) has had the first publication of her writing! The online journal Scapegoat Review has a page in its Spring issue devoted to three of Emily's paintings and two of her poems. Read about it here:

Bill & Emily's Media Exploits - 3/23/13

Happy Spring everyone!

For the past few years Emily has been corresponding and collaborating with the poet Nin Andrews. The collaboration started as a single poem inspired by a painting, and it has grown from several such poems published in literary journals to published videos of Nin reading poems against moving backdrops of Emily's paintings.

We are happy to announce that there is now a book! It's called The Circus of Lost Dreams. Thirty of Nin's poems are paired with Emily's paintings in a digital interactive chapbook published by PoetsArtists. The chapbook is available for free from iTunes, and can be played on an iPad or iPhone - poems, paintings, audio & video.

For those of you not in iLand, the text and image version of the book is available on
